The Fleet Engineer, under the direction of the Manager-Vessel Maintenance, is responsible for the maintenance and repair of equipment onboard CTC vessels. The Fleet Engineer will be assigned to ride various CTC vessels for revolving service to complete tasks assigned by Manager-Vessel Maintenance. Fleet Engineers will be expected to use and follow the policies, procedures, and regulations of the CTC TSMS, United States Coast Guard, Tanker Management and Self-Assessment (TMSA), and Ship Inspection Report Program (SIRE). Fleet Engineers will follow all of CTC’s safety policies and procedures and have all current training in the Learning Management System (LMS) assigned to them completed by their due date.

Tasks may be performed in all weather conditions, inside and outside of the vessel, during the day and night hours.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot/diagnose vessel malfunctions and initiate corrective action.
  • Interpret gauge and temperature level variations and take corrective action.
  • Read and interpret a scale (length, height, weight, distance, numerical, etc.)
  • Perform mathematic calculations
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance, as necessary.
  • Perform TSMS required vessel inspections, document findings, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Change main and generator engine lube oil and fuel filters, perform oil changes, and take oil samples
  • Maintenance and repair of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, HVACR, alarms, appliances, plumbing, MSD, potable water, deck equipment, and fuel systems.
  • Perform diagnostics on any Caterpillar engines with the use of CAT ET Laptop and Software.
  • Log all tasks performed in Helm Maintenance System, and complete all required forms and documentation as assigned.
  • Perform duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, safety rules, environmental policies, operating regulations, and practices, and report unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Knowledge of USCG, Subchapter M, SIRE, TMSA compliance regulations.
  • Work a 28-28 schedule, a day for day.
  • Training vessel staff on routine preventive maintenance and services for equipment.
  • Availability to work with shoreside staff during days assigned off.
Minimum Educational and Job Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver license
  • Effective verbal and written skills
Preferred Educational and Job Qualifications:
  • Trade School or equivalent experience
  • PIC credential
Physical Capabilities:
  • Lift 60-100 lbs. and traverse up to 30 feet
  • Ascend/Descend a 90-degree ladder up to 40 feet.
  • Position self to move through 18-inch diameter hatch.
  • Maintain constant communication with crew members.
