The External Affairs Manager will be accountable for developing a global public affairs and media relations communications strategy that helps protect, build and enhance OFE's reputation with key stakeholders in the communities in which the OFE operates. In this role, you will develop a communications strategy that underpins BH’s commitment to delivering innovative technology and solutions for our customers, developing skills and expertise, while strengthening the company’s relationship with key industry stakeholders and building the communities.
As an External Affairs Manager, you will be responsible for:
Driving media relations to grow our profile and share of voice, support business growth and public affairs objectives, encompassing local, national, trade, international and social media outlets
Providing day-to-day media liaison
Collaborating with the wider BH Communications team, and in specific with the External Affairs community of practice, identifies and develops 360-degree storytelling opportunities
Developing an integrated communications strategy that positions the business with key influencers in the communities in which it operates, and that includes issue management and engagement
Driving issues management approach & leads coordination in times of crisis. Issue/Crisis preparedness aligned with overall BH work on risk management. Engages on Reputational Issues
Enhancing the capabilities of the existing business spokespeople (and developing new ones as needed) for executive positioning
Coordinating high-level engagement with key stakeholders
Increasing thought leadership capabilities and presence in the media, social media and events, industry groups/associations by working with PR partners to prepare new and thought-provoking articles relative to the oil and gas industry and OFE’s positioning
Producing factual, informative and insightful briefings to support the VP Corporate Affairs, Chief Executive Officer and other leadership team members.
Developing, implementing and recommending a network of third-party advocates and validators of OFE and building a dialogue with these around ‘social license to operate’
Acting as an OFE ambassador, helping to build relationships between OFE leaders and key influencers, educating and maintaining awareness of key community issues within OFE and managing appropriate responses
Acting as an active member of the global BH External Affairs community of practice to ensure the communications strategy is aligned with global engagement & public affairs communication strategies
Measuring progress against the plan, defining metrics and other measuring tools to help assess the effectiveness
Responsible for the budget management assigned to EA as appropriate
To be successful in this role you will:
Have a minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, in an international environment
Have proven Oil & Gas industry, media relations and public affairs experience
Have demonstrated ability to develop and implement communication campaigns
Have rigorous attention to detail
Be fluent in written and spoken English
