OVERVIEW

Coordinates communications activities in support of S & B business initiatives, including, but not limited to, publications, newsletters, annual reports, website, and press releases.

SCOPE:

Working independently with minimal supervision, this position assists the Director of Marketing and Communications in generating media coverage, company announcements, newsletters, website copy, brochures, press releases, social media content, and developing communication and campaign strategies for the S&B Family of Companies.

EDUCATION:

Requires a four-year degree or equivalent, preferably in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a communications or marketing role.
  • Must be collaborative and able to work at all levels of the organization.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • An analytical mind and ability to think critically.
  • Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiar with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and capable of creating visually compelling presentations.
  • Working knowledge of PoliteMail a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to independently move projects forward, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics and best practices.
  • Proficient public speaking abilities are an asset.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for creating a variety of different content to support communications and marketing efforts, including company announcements, newsletters, website copy, and brochures and press releases.
  • Produce high-quality, consistent, and compelling communications materials on a variety of subject matters, including policies and procedures, marketing, job descriptions, public relations, etc.
  • Conduct interviews and research to obtain and translate ideas into pertinent Company communications topics.
  • Develop communications materials using a variety of formats and tools including email, newsletters, FAQs, websites, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Ensure accuracy of communications to make sure messages fit within the context of the Company’s communications strategies.
  • Provides copywriting and editing for press releases, fact sheets, and newsletters.
  • Work in partnership with Marketing team to create and manage content calendars for internal and external communications channels.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a communications strategy designed to further company objectives.
  • Manage and upload content regularly to company intranet.
  • Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies.
  • Evaluates public relations/marketing operations and activities; develops and recommends strategies for improving message delivery.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices.
  • Assist with the coordination of marketing and community events, including support for logistics, managing registrations, coordinating with vendors, creating itineraries, and ordering collateral.
  • Follow communication processes to ensure that communications are delivered to the right audience in the most effective manner.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to communicate clearly with marketing and technical staff through written and verbal communications. Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures and instructions. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. Must have familiarity with engineering terminology. Must have editing capabilities with excellent language and grammar skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to transport and lift presentation equipment and materials to various company offices and remote sites. Requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb stairs; lifting up to 25 pounds is routinely required. Also requires clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work performed in hectic office environment. Presentations often require travel to other company locations and occasionally to client offices. Research and development may require travel. Must be able to balance the demands of competing workloads.
