Under the direction of an Assistant County Attorney, the Legal Assistant performs specifically delegated substantive legal work. Such work requires a sufficient knowledge of legal principles and procedures that, absent such person, an attorney or a paralegal would be required to perform the task.
The Legal Assistant is responsible for:
Communicates with the public in person and on the phone to answer questions and help resolve issues, specifically with motor vehicle car dealers experiencing problems with special inventory tax statements.
Manages high volume caseload.
Manages high call volume with the public.
Communicates and meet with different departments regarding casework. • Communicate and meet with the public regarding casework.
Correctly calendar items in the task list of each case.
Keeps accurate notes in the database of each case.
Opens, closes, update files, and run reports using the Compliance Database.
Analyzes, organizes, and tracks case files so files may be available to the attorney in paper form or electronic form.
Electronically and manually maintain and update case files with the ability to manage a high mail volume: o Draft, file, and/or mail demand letters, installment agreements, payment reminders, and miscellaneous letters for files.
Electronically and manually, maintain and update other miscellaneous cases as assigned.
Receives and process payments for walk-ins.
Regular communication with Attorneys.
Maintains proficiency in internet resources.
Acquires familiarity with commonly used legal terms.
Correctly formatting and typing legal forms.
Acts as liaison between courts, clerks, and attorneys as needed.
Handles miscellaneous administrative tasks as assigned.

Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience as a Legal Assistant.
Possess familiarity with the Texas and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and demonstrating an ability to locate relevant rules needed to complete tasks assigned.
Ability to use Windows 10 and Office 2016.
Ability to acquire research through the Secretary of State, HCAD, and Comptroller’s websites.
Ability to use facsimile machines, scanners, printers, copiers, and other equipment to complete tasks.

Preferences
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat software.

Software used routinely (at least once each week): Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, Adobe, Full Authority.
Computer and other equipment used: Dell Optiplex 7010, Dell 24” Monitor, and HP Laserjet 4100 N printer.
Filing electronically in the Mandated E-filing District Courts.
