Overview of Position:

The Field Technician reports to the Field Services Manager and is responsible for installation, operation and maintenance of VSAT, marine and other communications related equipment offshore, onshore and any other remote locations. Through strategic direction and accountability, this position will perform and implement Speedcast Field Services initiatives related to Field Services Operations to ensure contracted services are delivered to meet customer’s satisfaction, whilst optimizing the potential to maximize the margin.

What you will do:

  • Carry out or assist in surveys, installations, commissioning and operation of Communication Systems in line with scope of work provided by FS Coordinator
  • Travel to job locations, Domestic and International, as directed by FE Coordinator Supervisor taking into account HSE issues regarding travel abroad
  • Follow appropriate procedures, either internal or by the client as needed to resolve the issue
  • Communicate issue and problem resolution notes with Field Engineering Supervisor, Operations Engineers and Customer Service Centre
  • Update and collect proper signatures in the Job Report after dispatches
  • Send daily reports and end of job reports to FE Management
  • Keep local client representatives updated on ongoing work, projects, operations etc.
  • Effective 'debrief' and reporting of service calls after closing/ending these
  • Perform any other duties assigned by your manager
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Work in compliance with required QHSE policies and procedures
  • Report any accident, incident or occurrence deemed dangerous or hazardous through the channels provided by the Company’s Management Systems
  • Attendance and completion of any company provided training
  • Provide technical support and resource to ensure delivery of service
  • Act as a liaison with clients, and groups within Speedcast to ensure the timely delivery of service
  • Perform installation, commissioning and maintenance of fixed and stabilized satellite systems.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately, legibly and obtain proper approvals from job site location management
  • Lift up to 75 lbs.; climbs structures as required on land and offshore, installing communication and antenna systems
  • Comply with Speedcast Driving Policy
  • Comply with eligibility to obtain and maintain valid TWIC card
  • Configure, test and troubleshoot satellite modems, Ku, C & Ka band systems
  • Drive company vehicle safely and responsibly, observing traffic regulations and requirements, to/from job sites
  • Reports to FE Assistant Manager

What we need from you:

  • University degree in Computer Science or Network/Telecommunications or 5 years of equivalent experience
  • Technical knowledge of Electro-Mechanical systems, or a degree equivalent Electronic/Electrical Engineering qualification
  • A good understanding of HES issues for offshore work and work in remote locations
  • Good troubleshooting skills, and ability to work with complex problems
  • Well organized, and the ability to prioritize under pressure
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills; with the ability to work as part of a team.
