Your Mission:

The Senior Storage Engineer position within the Cloud Engineering and Operations group at Medidata is a hands-on technical position, involving the architecture, design, administration, support and development of an ever growing and evolving storage infrastructure in our on-premises environment. The candidate will be responsible for the uptime, performance and reliability of the storage systems supporting a variety of mission critical applications which comprise our Medidata Clinical Cloud SaaS solution. The role will require implementing storage-centric solutions that are reliable, secure, repeatable and scalable. The candidate must have excellent problem-solving skills and be passionate in delivering quality results, learning new technologies, improving processes via automation and optimizing system performance. The ideal candidate will be able to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

• Architecture and design of SAN and storage infrastructure related to but not limited to database servers, web servers, file servers, clustered and virtualized servers

• Architecture and design of data protection, disaster recovery and data replication solutions

• Automation of SAN and storage infrastructure to reduce toil and promote operational efficiency

• Level 2 and 3 operational support for the hosting storage infrastructure

• Subject matter expert assigned to various projects to provide solutions for business needs. Will participate in all phases of project management including charter, scope, requirements gathering, deliverables, milestones and timelines.

• Operate within a project centric, compliance and change control framework

• Solve problems independently and as part of a team

• Stay current with technology, innovation, and market trends related to the hosting infrastructure.

• Maintain vendor relationships and stay current with product roadmaps, enhancements and equipment refreshes

• Documentation of SAN, storage and related infrastructure

• Participate in the On-call rotation for after-hours coverage

• Limited travel may be required on an as needed basis

Your Competencies:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in design, installation, integration and troubleshooting of various storage platforms

• Expert level knowledge of Pure Storage FlashArrays and FlashBlades

• Expert level knowledge of NAS systems including Netapp

• Expert level knowledge of managing fiber channel SAN and Cisco MDS switches

• Experience designing Disaster Recovery solutions and working with FlashArray replication technologies

• Experience working with Rubrik Data Protection technology. MS SQL backup knowledge is a plus

• Experience supporting storage infrastructure within a Cisco UCS environment

• Experience working with various public cloud solutions preferred (AWS)

• Must have working knowledge of VMWare vCenter Server and vSphere/ESXi Infrastructure

• Operational knowledge of Kubernetes, Containers and Docker is preferred

• Understanding of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) integration and concepts

• Automation and scripting experience using languages such as Python, Bash, Powershell, PowerCLI, etc

• Knowledge and experience working with application APIs (ie: REST, SOAP, etc)

• Proven experience enhancing operational efficiencies related to cost, stability, and performance

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and be able to adapt to shifting priorities as well as to changes in requirements, process and timelines.

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills along with the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Experience operating within an Agile Project Management framework and use of the tool JIRA

Your Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent years of experience in Information Systems

• Requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
